Well, unfortunately my Eastern Washington Eagles didn't win last night.  They were ahead there for awhile, and I was rooting hard for them to win.  However, my loss is your win.  Enter below to win my Sight Word Sight Words Bundle.

My students love doing this activity during literacy centers!  I'm sure your students will too!

March Blogger-Matchup

Are you a big college basketball fan?  I grew up right in the middle of Kansas Jayhawk country, so you can only imagine what March was like around my area and school.  I'm not kidding when I say that we had TVs in our library to watch in between classes and in our lunchroom to watch during lunch time.  My poor husband had no idea when the KU was playing in the championship game and they were making bad plays that he might have to replace the TV due to me almost throwing the remote at it.  Thankfully, I came to my senses before that happened.  lol

Being away from Kansas for March Madness time has dwindled my basketball craziness, but I still try to keep up with the goings on with my Kansas teams.  I was super proud of Wichita State getting into the final four in 2013!  It should be interesting if KU and Wichita State win their first round games and play each other.  That will be a game that I will have to try to catch if it happens.

Ashlyn from The Creative Classroom decided to have a fun Blogger Match-Up that corresponds with the basketball tourney!

Each blogger is paired up with a team in the tourney.  As the teams win, the bloggers mover up in the brackets.  At the end there will be a blogger winner along with the National Champion.

I was paired with Eastern Washing University.  They just started playing as I type, so cheer on those Eagles!

Even if my team loses, you can still be a winner!  I will be giving away my Sign Language Sight Words Bundle if my team loses.  I will keep you updated!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Did you have a leprechaun visit your classroom today?  Usually our leprechaun visits us and wrecks havoc in our classroom, but he was a little subdued today.  He left gold glitter all over our classroom tables, necklaces at each spot, and traded in all of our pencils for green pens!  He was fast too!  He did this all in the time it took me to turn around and open the door from the playground.  ;)

My students had so much fun writing with their green pens today!  One of my Kinders wrote about his pen today during writing time.  Can you say precious?

We have pens.  Our pens write green.  Yay!  My favorite color is green.
Another Kinder brought me this very sweet and very green gift!  It was filled with yummy green treats!

I hope you had a fun day with your class too!  Thanks for stopping by!

What's New in Room 2!

So, how are you doing?  Did you think I disappeared again?  I really can't blame you.  I mean it has been about a month and a half since the last time I shared anything here on my little piece of the web.  Well, tonight I decided to jump right back in and write up a little blog post about what's been going on in Room 2.

Community Helpers
We have started our community helpers unit.  Every year I have students draw pictures of what they would like to be when they grow up.  I love the pictures that I have gotten in the past, and I have not been disappointed in what my students have drawn this year.  I love how the patients in the doctor picture are sad (but the doctor is happy), the details on the scientist picture, and of course, the teacher picture.

Listening Station
For the past few years, I have just had my students listen to a story over and over again until time was up.  A few months ago, I realized that I really needed my students to do some kind of response to the stories that they were listening to.  Now, I didn't want anything complicated or with a lot of writing.  I just wanted a little something for them to do after they had listened to the story the first time.  This past week our story at the listening center was If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.  I thought it would be fun for the students to pick something that they would like to give the cat.  Here are some of the responses that I got.

St. Patrick's Day
We have been doing some fun activities to gear up for St. Patrick's Day.  On Friday, I handed my students a shamrock with a variety designs on it.  The students then had to color it using only using green, yellow green, and green yellow crayons.  I thought they turned out so great!  Here is what one of the shamrocks looked like when it was finished.

We have also been playing a favorite game with a St. Patrick's Day twist:  Bump!  This version of Bump had the students working on their long vowel sounds.

The girls who were playing when I took this picture let me know that they keep bumping each other off of the bow.  That is, of course, until the one girl froze the spot.  :)

Would you like a copy of St. Patrick's Day Bump for your classroom?  You can find it in my Teachers Pay Teachers storeor you can get it for free until 7 a.m. PST Monday morning on my Facebook page as my gift for sticking around.

Thanks for stopping by!
